Yuletide fic is done and uploaded! Now I can shower, and eat lunch, and go to the bank.
Haven't said much lately as have been sick and exhausted, and doing family stuff the rest of the time. Am sad that I didn't manage to find another copy of The Dark is Rising to read for Christmas, and left mine at home. Perhaps I'll stop by a bookshop today and see.

Have I mentioned that I absolutely adore my husband.
Because he lets me come up to Alaska. He doesn't mind only talking to me maybe every other day. He lets me be who I am without complaint, tells me when I'm being overboard ridiculous, and will follow me to the ends of the earth if there's high speed internet.
It's no complicated, it's easy. He accepts who I am and is the calm, collected peaceful center of the universe.

The stars up here are weird. Even though there's no streetlights for a ridiculous amount of miles, I'm pretty sure I could see more stars in Mississippi. It's like you can't see the tiny tiny ones here, the broad sweeping bands of stars; maybe they get lost in the cold (it's -38F currently, about the same in C). But there ones that are there...man, they're bright. And twinkly with colors.
The constellations are in different places. I don't know where to look for them. I also don't know where the moon is. I've only seen it once since I've been here and that was during the day.
It's clear out, but no Northern Lights. And that's okay. It's kind of tempting me to come up for my Spring Break, but I figure I've made tentative commitments and someone might get their feelings hurt ;>
So, maybe next winter. I get December and January off for "interviews". I'm sure I could find a couple to go to and make it a practical expense.

gah this was so adorable! i loved the slow, inevitable lead-up, and working in a dream sequence is not easily done but you managed it really well. this was very well-done, everyone felt so natural and normal and so very them despite the au setting. ♥!

my comment was useless, so have the receiver's (xxkonokisekixx): I literally loved everything about this story. I feel like you really did get inside Jun's head, writing his POV so...Matsujun-like. It's pretty rare these days to find someone who writes Arashi members in character. That was one of the major things I loved about this story; it's so realistic in the way the characters think and act. And touching upon the "realistic" thing, I love how you made Jun worry about him being gay, because so many times that's left ignored and not a huge dilemma for the character when it usually is in reality.

I really should stop reading at 3AM. Here's astrangerenters' comment (edited for spoilers?): I never thought of Arashi like Heroes but this is 9832759876984 times better than Heroes could have ever hoped to be. I was just so ridiculously HAPPY when I read this because they're obviously not Arashi as Arashi but they're still...Arashi. So thoroughly and completely. The dynamics and friendships and relationships between all of them are so spot on even though they have SUPERPOWERS. And the superpowers you gave each of them are just so PERFECT. I cannot express how enjoyable this was to read.

This one was for MEEEEEEE so I am biased but I loved it okay. It was just as I see both Sho and Jun and how I've always imagined this pairing would work, and even the others who played peripheral roles were just so well done and spot on! ♥ Also it had hot sexytimes in it! How could you go wrong!

Writer's Block: Winter wonderland
1. No. I pretty much never long for snow. I don't mind the cold as long as I have a way to be warm, but snow? Not so much. Not any, actually. Well, okay, maybe Christmas eve. But that's it.
2. I'd rather spend my holidays with my family and friends. The location is honestly irrelevant. There should, however, be food.
In other news, I might not get home from work tonight because of the impending snowstorm (see #1). *packs jammies* I also will not be able to take Amelia for the day tomorrow like I was going to do. Or go to church. Grr. And also Brr.

So I'm trying to have a productive last weekend before Christmas, and I haven't sent a single Christmas card, and my tree isn't up, and my ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) yuletide fic isn't begun, and I haven't started my shopping. :P But I had an idea this morning, and that idea needs a poll.

man, why do i keep wanting to be asian so much?
Okay, so I have about a billion and one things to write about, even if we just take the last two days (ie, Thursday and Friday; not even today), but this one's a quickie because... I'm pretending not to care that I still haven't written up my Japan trip.
Anyway, I was watching Osen today, as I am wont to do lately on the weekends, (and a word to the wise, you should all go download and watch it too, Aoi Yuu is gorgeous and Uchi is kind of great and the sets are beautiful and the story is heartwarming) and because of how... Japanese it is, I decided to give into my horrific and largely ignored and hidden wapanese tendencies and pulled out the yukata that maiaide bought for me.
I've never tied it up by myself, and didn't look for proper instructions beforehand, so what resulted is a mish-mash of my memory of when Heather helped me into it the only other time I've worn it, and some random thing I found on the internet that I was reading on my phone. The obi is terrible (not tight enough~) and the folds are not quite as origami-like (ie, crisp lines) as I'd have liked, but it's pretty good for a slap-dash job.
And because I like displaying my failboating as much as Mr. Sho Sakulai, you can take a look at some photos here. The black stuff underneath are leggings and a long-sleeved shirt because it is -3C right now.

Family Reunion

The Oldbie Intervention
So this is because of thanfiction, but it's not personal. We have no idea who thanfiction really is, we have not read his fic, we know nothing about the community he generated, but we saw the wankery and it made us homesick for ye olde fandom. So we're going to stage an intervention, veela inc. style.
We are nostalgic for fandom, plain and simple. luciusmalfoy and I have to admit, we are not JK Rowling's greatest fans. There are people who worship her work with more verve than we do. We like the idea of a world where there are hidden communities of magical people. We like the paranoid and suspicious settings of a society about to break into war, and the seeming quiet and questions that come when all the conflict is resolved. We like the basic emptiness of many of these characters, to be quite frank. They are vaguely sketched and leave lots of room for fannish decoration. We like to do that decoration, in as many ways as we can think up. So there's no reason for fandom to die out just because the books are all finished. All this these things are still open to us; the playground may be mostly deserted, but it's still a pretty good playground. We want to refurbish the place a bit.
In order to do this, we need some help. We need to get caught up on where fandom's at right now. We need to know how people have constructed these characters. We'd like to know what all the very best fics are. How about the best art? The best vids? The best of everything! Educate us and we'll create a fandom resource too. Where does fandom reside these days? Is it at dreamwidth rather than LJ? Twitter? Let us know what we've missed and what we should know.
We want to rebuild the community as we remember it at the height of our time in fandom. This does indeed mean the return of some of our old favourites: open chats (#malfoymanor) where you can drop in and talk with people, group activities for everyone to enjoy, recs, discussion, fun! We miss you guys! Why not develop a little old style community in the middle of all this new fandom stuff? Just for the fun of it. luciusmalfoy loves the drama, it's true, so we can make some up to keep her entertained, but no need for wankery. Just good times!
So can you help us out with this project? If you keep recs, or want to rec, we want to hear from you. Collect art? We want to showcase your collection. Want to start writing again? Creating art?
luciusmalfoy and I are starting to plan some work together, and I have to admit to starting to work out something new I'm going to write myself. Are you with us? Who says you can't go home again?

It's been cloudy every night except the first night since I've been here.
And it finally cleared enough tonight around 1 am. Stars were out. Gorgeous.
Put on the gear, drive down to the river where there are no lights. Aurora starts right when we get there.
...
And then lasts about 30 seconds as the clouds come whooshing back in.
Stupid clouds.
